Summary: This paper proposes a comprehensive DER flexibility modelling and characterization framework that is based on the concept of nodal operating envelope (NOE). It identifies capacity, ramp, duration, and cost as key flexibility metrics and associates them with different but consistent NOEs describing capability, feasibility, ramp, duration, economic, technical, and commercial flexibility features.

Summary: Hierarchical grid control strategies based on the aggregation of decentralized ancillary service potentials offer an appropriate design concept for future TSO and DSO coordination. This article presents an approach for the monetarization of feasible operation region (FOR) by using a cost structure, which can be adapted for the coordination of DSO/DSO interactions.

Summary: This paper quantifies the flexibility envelope of actively controlled flexible buildings and analyzes the sensitivity of flexibility levels with respect to system configuration, control strategy, and objective function settings. The optimized control, aiming at minimizing energy costs while limiting peak power, leads to savings of up to 25% compared to the existing rule-based control. Time-dependent quantification of the flexibility envelope reveals that high and low power levels can only be sustained for a limited period, whereas medium power levels can be sustained the longest.
