QTL analysis for plant height and fine mapping of two environmentally stable QTLs with major effects in soybean

Tian Yu et al.

Summary: By constructing a high-density genetic map, nine QTLs for plant height in soybean were identified, including three novel loci. Among them, two environmentally stable QTLs played a major role in plant height, explaining a significant proportion of phenotypic variance, and were fine-mapped to specific gene regions.

Expanding the gene pool for soybean improvement with its wild relatives

Yongbin Zhuang et al.

Summary: Genetic diversity in cultivated soybean is low due to domestication and selective breeding, while wild soybeans, especially perennial soybeans, still maintain high levels of genetic diversity. Advances in genome sequencing allow for the discovery of desirable traits lost during domestication in wild soybeans, accelerating soybean breeding and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Identifying Wild Versus Cultivated Gene-Alleles Conferring Seed Coat Color and Days to Flowering in Soybean

Cheng Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, an improved wild soybean chromosome segment substitution line (CSSL) population, SojaCSSLP5, was developed, which was genotyped through whole-genome resequencing to identify genetic changes from wild soybean to cultivated soybean. Using the SNPLDB-map, several candidate genes related to seed-coat color and days to flowering were identified and verified, demonstrating the efficiency of the CSSL population in identifying candidate wild vs. cultivated gene-alleles. The integration of parental DNA and RNA sequencing data provided a reliable platform for further research on genetic changes between wild and cultivated soybean.

Novel QTL identification and candidate gene analysis for enhancing salt tolerance in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.)

Kang-Heum Cho et al.

Summary: By using a mapping population derived from a cross between a salt-sensitive Korean cultivar and a salt-tolerant land-race, this study identified two novel major loci on chromosome 6 and 10 that control salt tolerance in soybean. These loci provide additional genetic resources for breeding soybean cultivars with enhanced salt tolerance.

MYB transcription factors GmMYBA2 and GmMYBR function in a feedback loop to control pigmentation of seed coat in soybean

Ruifang Gao et al.

Summary: The study identified two key regulators, GmMYBA2 and GmMYBR, in the control of soybean seed coat pigmentation. GmMYBA2 functions as an activator of anthocyanin biosynthetic genes, while GmMYBR acts as a repressor. These regulators may form a feedback loop to finely tune seed coat coloration.

Identification of a major QTL related to resistance to soybean mosaic virus in diverse soybean genetic populations

Jiahao Chu et al.

Summary: In this study, major QTL qSMV13 conferring resistance to Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) was identified on chromosome 13, with GWAS revealing five SNPs significantly associated with resistance to particular strains. A candidate gene, LRR-RLK protein, was proposed for qSMV13, providing valuable markers and genes for SMV resistance in soybean breeding programs.
