Tree responses to foliar dust deposition and gradient of air pollution around opencast coal mines of Jharia coalfield, India: gas exchange, antioxidative potential and tolerance level

Siddharth Singh et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the responses of five native tree species to air pollution in the Jharia coalfield, finding that Ficus benghalensis and Butea monosperma were most affected by dust deposition, while Adina cordifolia was least affected. Tree species near coal mining areas showed better physiological and morphological adaptations towards pollution load and resisted pH variation in leaf extracts by effectively metabolizing sulphate.

Assessment of physiological, biochemical and yield responses of wheat plants under natural saline and non-saline field conditions

Bhavna Jaiswal et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that soil salinity negatively impacts crop growth and yield, leading to decreased transpiration rate and stomatal conductance, fluctuations in photosynthetic pigment levels, as well as affecting the plants' defense mechanisms and antioxidant capabilities.

Synergistic and antagonistic interactions between potassium and magnesium in higher plants

Kailiu Xie et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the interactions between potassium and magnesium in plants, focusing on their root uptake, root-to-shoot translocation, and distribution. The antagonistic effect of potassium on magnesium is stronger, highlighting the importance of balanced use of potassium and magnesium fertilizers for sustaining high plant-available magnesium and alleviating potassium-induced magnesium deficiency.
