Summary: Tree mortality during global-change-type drought is often attributed to xylem dysfunction, but with the increase in extreme heat events due to climate change, understanding the interaction of heat stress is crucial. Drought-stressed plants may open stomata in heatwaves to prevent leaves from critically overheating. The inclusion of thermal safety margins (TSM) and responses to heat stress could enhance predictions of tree species vulnerability to future droughts.

Long-term almond yield response to deficit irrigation
