Suppression of Pepper Root Rot and Wilt Diseases Caused by Rhizoctonia solani and Fusarium oxysporum

Mohamed Kamal El-Kazzaz et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the potential of beneficial rhizosphere microorganisms in controlling root rot and wilt diseases in pepper plants. Two isolates, Paenibacillus polymyxa and Trichoderma longibrachiatum, were found to significantly reduce the growth of pathogens in vitro. The use of growth-promoting fungi, P. polymyxa, or T. longibrachiatum resulted in reduced incidence and severity of diseases in pepper plants compared to the control. The expression of defense-related gene CaPR4 was higher in treated plants, indicating systemic resistance to pathogen infections.

Application of Bio-Friendly Formulations of Chitinase-Producing Streptomyces cellulosae Actino 48 for Controlling Peanut Soil-Borne Diseases Caused by Sclerotium rolfsii

Gaber Abo-Zaid et al.

Summary: The Actino 48 strain of Streptomyces cellulosae exhibited strong suppression of Sclerotium rolfsii mycelium growth and high chitinase enzyme production. By using a talc-based culture broth formulation, it effectively reduced the occurrence of peanut diseases and increased the yield, showing potential as a biocontrol agent for soil-borne diseases caused by S. rolfsii.

First Report of Protective Activity of Paronychia argentea Extract against Tobacco Mosaic Virus Infection

Ahmed Abdelkhalek et al.

Summary: The study investigated the protective activity of Paronychia argentea extract against tobacco mosaic virus infection in tomato plants. Results showed that the extract enhanced plant growth, reduced virus accumulation, and induced systemic resistance with increased production of antioxidant enzymes and pathogenesis-related proteins. HPLC analysis identified several abundant polyphenolic compounds in the extract. The findings suggest the potential of P. argentea extract as a safe and effective source of bioactive compounds for managing plant viral infections.
