Organic practices intensify the microbiome assembly and suppress root-knot nematodes

Julio C. P. Silva et al.

Summary: Organic and conventional practices influence the composition of rhizosphere microbiome and subsequently impact the suppression of RKN. Organic practices enhance the recruitment of antagonistic bacteria and fungi for more efficient suppression of RKN.

Different crop rotation systems change the rhizosphere bacterial community structure of Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch) Bge. var. mongholicus (Bge.) Hsiao

Bingzhen Li et al.

Summary: Crop rotation with Avena sativa L significantly promoted the growth of A. mongholicus and improved soil quality by increasing organic matter, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and available potassium contents. It also enhanced the diversity of bacterial communities in the rhizosphere of A. mongholicus and increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria like Clostridia, Rubrobacterales, and Micromonosporales. Additionally, the composition of rhizosphere bacterial community varied with different sampling times and crop rotation practices, indicating the effectiveness of crop rotation in alleviating continuous cropping obstacles for A. mongholicus.

Targeting the Active Rhizosphere Microbiome of Trifolium pratense in Grassland Evidences a Stronger-Than-Expected Belowground Biodiversity-Ecosystem Functioning Link

Sara Fareed Mohamed Wahdan et al.

Summary: The relationship between active microbes and soil ecosystem functions in a grassland ecosystem is significant, with active microbes playing a crucial role in defining soil functions. The study reveals that total and active microbiomes respond differently to variations in soil physicochemical factors, with nitrogen fixing bacteria being highly active in this system. The findings suggest a stronger link between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning in soil than previously believed.

Strong potential of slurry application timing and method to reduce N losses in a permanent grassland

Stefania Codruta Maris et al.

Summary: Livestock manure is a significant source of nitrogen, but can also lead to emissions of ammonia and nitrous oxide, as well as leaching of nitrate. Timing and method of manure application can impact N losses, with autumn application increasing nitrate leaching and reducing plant N uptake, injection reducing ammonia volatilization, and potential N losses varying greatly based on application practices.
