Organic carbon distribution and soil aggregate stability in response to long-term phosphorus addition in different land-use types

Jiangxue Du et al.

Summary: Understanding the impact of phosphorus on SOC distribution and aggregate stability in soil of different land-use types is critical for improving soil fertility. The study found that the effects of inorganic fertilizers vary in different types of soils, underscoring the importance of considering soil characteristics in agricultural practices.

Plant Biomass and Soil Nutrients Mainly Explain the Variation of Soil Microbial Communities During Secondary Succession on the Loess Plateau

Miao-ping Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that herb communities, soil microbial biomass, and enzyme activities were strongly affected by vegetation restoration, with significant differences in soil bacterial and fungal communities among sites. Correlation analysis showed that litter biomass and fine root biomass were significantly positively correlated with the Chao index of soil bacteria, soil microbial biomass, enzyme activities, Proteobacteria, Zygomycota, and Cercozoa, while negatively correlated with Actinobacteria and Basidiomycota. Additionally, soil water content, pH, and nutrients had important effects on the bacterial and fungal diversities, with influences on Acidobacteria, Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Nitrospirae, Zygomycota, and microbial biomass.

Short-term modifications of mycorrhizal fungi, glomalin and soil attributes in a tropical agroforestry

Priscila Silva Matos et al.

Summary: This research assessed the effects of different land uses on the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) community and glomalin-related soil protein (GRSP) production. The study found that land use type significantly influenced the AMF community and GRSP, while seasonality had a minimal impact. The management practices in agroforestry systems affected AMF sporulation and species diversity. Additionally, there were correlations between the AMF community and key soil parameters, such as soil aggregate stability and soil organic carbon (SOC).

Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi and Glomalin Play a Crucial Role in Soil Aggregate Stability in Pb-Contaminated Soil

Yinong Li et al.

Summary: With the rapid development of industrialization and urbanization, soil contamination with heavy metals has become a global environmental problem. This study investigated the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on the stability of soil aggregates under lead (Pb) stress. The results showed that AMF inoculation improved the stability of soil aggregates by increasing the concentration of glomalin-related soil protein (GRSP).

Niche differentiation drives microbial community assembly and succession in full-scale activated sludge bioreactors

Miguel de Celis et al.

Summary: Network models and community phylogenetic analyses were used to examine the temporal dynamics of network properties in microbial communities in activated sludge systems. The results showed that during the initial assembly stages, the microbial communities adapted to the activated sludge environment, leading to an increase in network modularity and co-exclusion proportion, and a decrease in network clustering. This suggests niche specialization as a result of the selective pressure of deterministic factors in wastewater treatment plants.

Precipitation exerts a strong influence on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi community and network complexity in a semiarid steppe ecosystem

Jinlong Wang et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates that precipitation significantly influences the community structure of AMF, while not affecting AMF diversity. Redundancy analysis results indicate that precipitation indirectly impacts AMF communities through changes in soil pH. Co-occurrence network analysis reveals that increased precipitation enhances the complexity of AMF communities, suggesting that precipitation can alter interactions between AMF communities.

Disentangling the effects of edaphic and vegetational properties on soil aggregate stability in riparian zones along a gradient of flooding stress

Yan Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that soil aggregate stability decreases with increasing flooding intensity, which is a major determinant of soil aggregation. Increased soil water content also significantly contributes to the decrease in aggregate stability, while soil organic matter and total nitrogen contents are associated with an increase in aggregate stability. Vegetational properties, such as aboveground biomass, plant species richness, and plant functional types, play a role in explaining soil aggregation.
