Novel Picornavirus Detected in Wild Deer: Identification, Genomic Characterisation, and Prevalence in Australia

Jose L. Huaman et al.

Summary: High-throughput sequencing has helped identify a novel picornavirus from Australian fallow deer feces, tentatively named Bopivirus C, which is closely related but distinct from known bopiviruses. Epidemiological investigation revealed the presence of this virus in fallow and red deer in southeastern Australia, but not in sambar deer and cattle. Further studies are needed to explore the geographic distribution and pathogenic potential of this newly discovered Bopivirus species in various animal species.

The first survey and molecular identification of Entamoeba spp. in farm animals on Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau of China

Sitong Ai et al.

Summary: The study investigated the prevalence and species/genotypes distribution of Entamoeba spp. in domestic animals on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. The results revealed a high prevalence of Entamoeba spp. infection in livestock, with a broad range of hosts and diverse species/genotype distribution in farm animals inhabiting the high altitude QTP region.

Molecular Epidemiology and Characterization of Picobirnavirus in Wild Deer and Cattle from Australia: Evidence of Genogroup I and II in the Upper Respiratory Tract

Jose L. Huaman et al.

Summary: PBVs were detected in wild deer and cattle in southeastern Australia, with both genogroups I and II being found. The study revealed the predominance of genogroup I and the simultaneous detection of both genogroups in these animals, as well as provided evidence of the respiratory tract tropism of PBVs.

Evaluation of haemoparasite and Sarcocystis infections in Australian wild deer

Jose L. Huaman et al.

Summary: Wild deer in eastern Australia were screened for parasitic genera but no presence of parasite DNA or antibodies was detected, indicating that they do not currently serve as hosts for Plasmodium, Trypanosoma, Babesia, Theileria or Sarcocystis parasites in this region. This suggests that wild deer do not play a significant role in the transmission of these parasites in eastern Australia at present.
