Silencing of Long Non-coding RNA H19 Alleviates Lipopoly-saccharide (LPS)-induced Apoptosis and Inflammation Injury by Regulating miR-140-5p/TLR4 Axis in Cell Models of Pneumonia

Hong Yang

Summary: This study aims to investigate the function and regulatory mechanism of lncRNA H19 in LPS-induced cell models of pneumonia. The results showed that H19 and TLR4 were up-regulated, while miR-140-5p was down-regulated. H19 inhibited apoptosis and inflammation through the miR-140-5p/TLR4 pathway in LPS-induced WI-38 cells.

Reprogramming of Cell Death Pathways by Bacterial Effectors as a Widespread Virulence Strategy

Joseph J. Wanford et al.

Summary: The modulation of programmed cell death has a crucial role in the immunity against bacterial infections. Tight regulation of cell death is necessary to resolve infection and maintain immune homeostasis, as uncontrolled inflammation can worsen the damage caused by bacterial infections. Bacterial pathogens have evolved strategies to manipulate cell death pathways to promote infection.

A Rare Twist of the Forgotten Disease: A Case of Fusobacterium necrophorum Sepsis with Portomesenteric Thrombosis and a Review of the Literature

Nicholas Lazar et al.

Summary: Abdominal variants of Lemierre's syndrome presenting with pylephlebitis are rare, and the effectiveness of anticoagulation in treatment is controversial. This case report highlights the successful outcome of prompt treatment with antibiotics and anticoagulation in a 57-year-old female patient, emphasizing the importance of timely intervention in improving prognosis.

Fusobacterium necrophorum Endocarditis with Liver Abscesses: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Kaho Sato et al.

Summary: Fusobacterium necrophorum is a rare cause of endocarditis, with few reported cases of monomicrobial F. necrophorum endocarditis in patients over 50 years old. Review suggests that anaerobic bacteria, including F. necrophorum, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of infective endocarditis, especially in patients without preexisting organic heart disease.
