Expression and localization of adiponectin and its receptors (AdipoR1 and AdipoR2) in the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis of laying hens

Chong Li et al.

Summary: The study found that adiponectin and its receptors are widely expressed in the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis of laying hens, with high expression in the hypothalamus. Adiponectin and AdipoR2 were localized in major hypothalamic nuclei regulating food intake and energy balance, while AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 were localized in basal cells in the ovaries.

Microbiota regulate innate immune signaling and protective immunity against cancer

Changsheng Xing et al.

Summary: The research revealed that mice lacking the immune signaling molecule TAK1 exhibited complete resistance to colitis and CRC through microbiome alterations. The altered microbiota in Tak1(Delta M/Delta M) mice promote IL-1 beta and IL-6 signaling pathways, which are necessary for inducing protective intestinal Th17 cells.

Combined effects of polyethylene and organic contaminant on zebrafish (Danio rerio): Accumulation of 9-Nitroanthracene, biomarkers and intestinal microbiota

Jinghua Zhang et al.

Summary: Microplastics are predicted to act as carriers for organic pollutants, but their carrier role and bio-toxic effects with other pollutants in environments are poorly acknowledged. This study investigated the effects of polyethylene (PE) and 9-Nitroanthracene (9-NAnt) on zebrafish, showing that PE could carry 9-NAnt into fish causing bioaccumulation, but in the case of coexisting exposures, PE reduced 9-NAnt bioaccumulation. The study suggests that microplastics with other emerging pollutants in chronic toxicity are probably next objects in future works.

In Vitro Effects of Stachyose on the Human Gut Microbiota

Zhonglin Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that stachyose improves the diversity of gut microbiota, increases the concentration of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), mainly acetic acid and butyric acid. Stachyose promotes the relative abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Bifidobacteria, Faecalibacterium, Lactobacillus, and Prevotella genera, while significantly reducing the relative abundance of pathogenic bacteria like Bacteroides and Escherichia-Shigella genera.
