Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) in North-Western India: A Retrospective Study Focusing on Epidemiology, Risk Factors, and Survival

Sweta Soni et al.

Summary: HCC is a aggressive tumor with poor prognosis and limited information in India. The study found a median overall survival of 5 months for patients. Factors such as age, gender, disease stage, tumor size, and cirrhosis may impact survival. Multifocality was identified as an independent predictor for poor survival, highlighting the need for further clinical studies to improve outcomes for high-risk patients.

Summary: Every year, the American Cancer Society projects the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States, with the latest data showing a significant decline in lung cancer mortality, while prostate cancer mortality has plateaued and breast and colorectal cancer mortality have slowed. Improvements in treatment have accelerated progress against lung cancer, leading to a record drop in overall cancer mortality.

The Therapeutic Principle of Combined Strengthening Qi and Eliminating Pathogens in Treating Middle-Advanced Primary Liver Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Yingqi She et al.

Summary: Traditional Chinese medicine believes that strengthening Qi and eliminating pathogens is an effective principle for treating primary liver cancer at middle-advanced stage. This meta-analysis found that Chinese medicinal formulas can improve patient survival duration and symptoms. Single strengthening Qi may prolong survival, while combined strengthening Qi and eliminating pathogens may reduce tumor size, but its impact on symptoms and survival time remains uncertain.

The Application of Citrus folium in Breast Cancer and the Mechanism of Its Main Component Nobiletin: A Systematic Review

Yuan Wu et al.

Summary: Citrus folium and its main ingredient nobiletin (NOB) have shown promising anticancer effects, especially on triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) related to liver stagnation syndrome. NOB exerts anticancer effects through various molecular mechanisms such as cell cycle inhibition, apoptosis induction, and angiogenesis inhibition. However, further studies are needed to explore the in vivo anticancer effects and mechanisms of Citrus folium and NOB for potential clinical applications in cancer treatment.

Scutellaria barbata D.Don and Oldenlandia diffusa (Willd.) Roxb crude extracts inhibit hepatitis-B-virus-associated hepatocellular carcinoma growth through regulating circRNA expression

Pei-Wei Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that the extracts of Scutellaria barbata D.Don (SB) and Oldenlandia diffusa (Willd.) Roxb contained total flavonoids, with active ingredients of luteolin and apigenin found in SB but not in OD. These extracts significantly inhibited the growth, migration, invasion, and HBV activity of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells in vitro and in vivo, and also altered circRNA expression in Hep3B cells.

Network Pharmacology/Metabolomics-Based Validation of AMPK and PI3K/AKT Signaling Pathway as a Central Role of Shengqi Fuzheng Injection Regulation of Mitochondrial Dysfunction in Cancer-Related Fatigue

Wei Guo et al.

Summary: Chinese herbal medicines have been increasingly used in multidisciplinary cancer therapies, with research showing that the Shengqi Fuzheng Injection (SFI) may help alleviate cancer-related fatigue (CRF) by targeting AMPK and inhibiting the PI3K/Akt signaling pathways to improve muscle cell mitochondrial function. The study identified 36 candidate compounds and 244 potential targets of SFI, demonstrating its potential in cancer-related fatigue treatment through network pharmacology approach.

Potential mechanism of Ziyin Tongluo Formula in the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis: based on network pharmacology and ovariectomized rat model

Rong-Bin Chen et al.

Summary: The study explored the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of Ziyin Tongluo Formula (ZYTLF) on postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP), identifying multiple active compounds and corresponding targets, as well as key genes involved in various signaling pathways such as estrogen, TNF, PI3K-Akt, and MAPK pathways. Through experimental validation, it was confirmed that ZYTLF prescription could ameliorate bone loss, suppress osteoclast activity, and enhance osteoblast function in PMOP.

PPA1 Promotes Breast Cancer Proliferation and Metastasis Through PI3K/AKT/GSK3 beta Signaling Pathway

Chunlei Guo et al.

Summary: PPA1 is highly expressed in breast cancer and correlated with poor survival in patients. Silencing PPA1 can inhibit breast cancer proliferation and metastasis. PPA1 serves as an activator of the PI3K/AKT/GSK3 beta/Slug-mediated breast cancer progression and is a potential therapeutic target for inhibiting tumor progression.

Saikosaponin D: review on the antitumour effects, toxicity and pharmacokinetics

Piao Zhou et al.

Summary: SSD demonstrates multi-targeted antitumour effects through various mechanisms, and its toxicological effects include hepatotoxicity, neurotoxicity, haemolysis, and cardiotoxicity. Pharmacokinetic studies show that SSD has the potential to alter the pharmacokinetics of certain drugs and the oral bioavailability and actual pharmacodynamic substances in vivo are still controversial. Further research is needed on the in vivo antitumour effects and pharmacokinetics of SSD.
