Dual-stimuli pseudorotaxane switches under kinetic control

Marius Gaedke et al.

Summary: A series of dumbbell-shaped sec-ammonium salts with bulky pseudostoppers were tested for their ability to form pseudorotaxanes with a redox-switchable TTF-decorated [24]crown-8 ether. The size of the pseudostoppers affected the threading rates, while external stimuli like deprotonation and chemical oxidation influenced the stability of the pseudorotaxanes. Additionally, two redox-switchable rotaxanes with different sterically bulky speed bumps were synthesized, but bulk electrolysis did not result in the expected macrocycle translocation due to the mechanical bond.
