Mineral Composition, Phenolic Content, and In Vitro Antidiabetic and Antioxidant Properties of Aqueous and Organic Extracts of Haloxylon scoparium Aerial Parts

Nacima Lachkar et al.

Summary: The study focused on the mineralogical and chemical composition of Haloxylon scoparium, as well as its evaluation of antidiabetic and antioxidant activities, The aerial part of the species is rich in alkaloids, flavonoids, catechic tannins, and saponins. The extracts showed high levels of total polyphenols, flavonoids, and catechic tannins, with the decoctate displaying a higher inhibitory capacity on α-glucosidase compared to acarbose. The antioxidant activity of the methanolic extract and decoctate also outperformed ascorbic acid, with positive correlations observed between total polyphenol content and antioxidant activity.

Mineral Content, Chemical Analysis, In Vitro Antidiabetic and Antioxidant Activities, and Antibacterial Power of Aqueous and Organic Extracts of Moroccan Leopoldia comosa (L.) Parl. Bulbs

Mohamed Boulfia et al.

Summary: The study analyzed mineral and chemical composition of Leopoldia comosa extracts and evaluated their antidiabetic, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties. Results showed high levels of Fe, K, P, Na, Cu, Mg, and Ca in L. comosa, with organic extracts exhibiting stronger antioxidant and antibacterial activity, as well as inhibitory effects on alpha-amylase, alpha-glucosidase, and beta-galactosidase enzymes. This may be correlated with phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and tannins in the plant, suggesting its potential in preventing metabolic diseases.
