Switching the Nonlinear Optical Absorption of Titanium Carbide MXene by Modulation of the Surface Terminations

Hui Li et al.

Summary: This study explores the modulation of nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of MXenes (Ti3C2Tx) through surface terminations. The results show that changing the surface terminations leads to variation in the effective NLO absorption coefficient and different saturable absorption and reverse saturable absorption behaviors.

Tianju Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the exciton-exciton annihilation (EEA) process in monolayer TMDs using femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, revealing that defect states enhance the EEA process at high exciton densities. This enhancement of EEA by defect states was found to play a key role in the exciton relaxation process in monolayer TMDs.

Tailoring the ultrafast and nonlinear photonics of MXenes through elemental replacement

Hualong Chen et al.

Summary: MXenes have emerged as promising candidates for new generation optoelectronic devices due to their outstanding electronic properties and unique chemical surface termination units. However, there is still a gap in understanding the ultrafast carrier photo-physics dynamics and nonlinear optical response in MXenes. Research on few-layer Ti3CN and Ti3C2 nanosheets has revealed opposite transient absorption and nonlinear absorption characteristics, as well as the presence of photo-induced bandgap renormalization and Pauli blocking phenomena. Element replacement may offer a new strategy for tuning the carrier kinetics and nonlinear optical response of MXenes, providing insight into ultrafast carrier photo-physics dynamics and advancing MXene-based photonics applications in optoelectronic devices.
