Gate-Tunable Magnetism via Resonant Se-Vacancy Levels in WSe2

Tuan Dung Nguyen et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates gate-tunable magnetic order via resonant Se vacancies in WSe2, which is confirmed by density functional calculations. The observation of Se-vacancy states through photo-excited carrier recombination, and the splitting of energy levels with increasing laser power, presents a new approach for controlling the magnetic properties of defects in vdW-layered semiconductors.

Summary: This study presents a novel method for growing high-quality rhenium and vanadium-doped TMDC monolayers using chemical vapor deposition with mixed molten salts. A tunable semiconductor to metal transition is observed in the doped TMDCs, with significantly improved electrical conductivity. Magnetic order and critical temperature of substitutionally doped transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers

Sabyasachi Tiwari et al.

Summary: Using first-principles calculations, the magnetic order in 2D TMD monolayers doped with transition metals was investigated, revealing five distinct magnetically ordered states among 35 TMD-dopant pairs. Different dopants result in different magnetic states, with Ni and Ti leading to non-magnetic states, Cr leading to antiferromagnetic states, and Fe, Mn, Co, and V leading to ferromagnetic states for most TMDs except MoTe2. V-doped MoSe2 and WSe2, and Mn-doped MoS2 were identified as the most suitable candidates for achieving room-temperature ferromagnetism at 16-18% atomic substitution.

Impurity-Induced Emission in Re-Doped WS2 Monolayers

Leyi Loh et al.

Summary: Impurity doping is a viable approach for improving optical response in semiconductors, but can lead to broad emissions that hinder materials engineering. In this study, a well-defined impurity-induced emission was observed in rhenium-doped monolayer WS2, with neutral impurity centers responsible for the emission. Additionally, calculations suggest that the emission is attributed to transitions between spin-split upper Re band and the valence band edge.

Evidence of itinerant holes for long-range magnetic order in the tungsten diselenide semiconductor with vanadium dopants

Bumsub Song et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates concrete evidence of long-range magnetic order through itinerant spin-polarized holes in a monolayer V-doped WSe2 semiconductor. Investigation shows hybridization between V impurity states and the host valence band leading to itinerant holes within the hybridized band and hysteresis in magnetoresistance. The findings resemble the Zener-type description of itinerant ferromagnetism as predicted by density functional theory calculations.

Controlling exciton many-body states by the electric-field effect in monolayer MoS2

J. Klein et al.

Summary: In this study, magneto-optical spectroscopy of gated monolayer MoS2 was conducted in high magnetic fields, revealing insights into the interaction of neutral and charged excitons with distinct spin and valley textures. It was found that at low electron doping, neutral excitons exhibit a nonlinear valley Zeeman shift dependent on local carrier concentration, transitioning smoothly into polaronic states away from charge neutrality. The experiments demonstrate that excitons in monolayer semiconductors behave as single particle bosons close to charge neutrality, affected by the quantized spin and valley textures of Landau levels in the system.
