Phenolic compounds from virgin olive oil obtained by natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES): effect of the extraction and recovery conditions

Elisa Rodriguez-Juan et al.

Summary: Natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) have been shown to efficiently extract phenolic compounds from virgin olive oil (VOO), and this study optimized the extraction yield using Xylitol/Choline chloride (Xyl/ChCl). The highest concentration of phenols was obtained at 40 degrees C for 1 hour with a 1:1 ratio, using XAD-16 resin for recovery. Additional desorption with different ethanol concentrations showed variable recovery rates for different polyphenols.

Deep Eutectic Solvents: A Review of Fundamentals and Applications

Benworth B. Hansen et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) exhibit significant depressions in melting points and tunable physicochemical properties, but there is still a lack of predictive understanding of their microscopic mechanisms and structure-property relationships. Research on complex hydrogen bonding is crucial for a deeper understanding and development of fundamental frameworks for DESs.

Environmentally Friendly Tannic Acid Multilayer Coating for Reducing Corrosion of Carbon Steel

Christy M. Koerner et al.

Summary: In this study, a 60 nm thick TA/PEI multilayer coating was successfully developed using LbL assembly, which effectively prevented carbon steel corrosion in deionized water for at least one month. This corrosion resistance was achieved through water stability based on ionic bonding and surface adhesion based on coordination bonding. Additionally, the COO-free components used in this coating make it more environmentally friendly.

Lignin promoted the fast formation of a robust and highly conductive deep eutectic solvent ionic gel at room temperature for a flexible quasi-solid-state supercapacitor and strain sensors

Jiake Wang et al.

Summary: The green synthesis approach of ionic gels using deep eutectic solvent (DES) allowed for the preparation of highly strong and conductive gels by utilizing the dynamic redox reaction between lignin and Fe-2(SO4)(3). These gels demonstrated extreme temperature stability, excellent stretchability, and increased electrical conductivity. The potential applications of these gels in supercapacitors and wearable sensors in flexible electronics were highlighted.
