The integration of pelletized agricultural residues into electricity grid: Perspectives from the human, environmental and economic aspects

Sergio Ivan Martinez-Guido et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the potential benefits of using agricultural residues to produce fuel pellets, as well as their use as a renewable feedstock for electricity production. The results show that it is possible to provide 200,899 GWh per year of electricity in Mexico through pellet combustion, with a 20% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and an 11% increase in social benefits. This revaluation of agricultural residues as a solid biofuel alternative for the electric power grid has positive economic, social, and environmental impacts.

Utilization of microalgae for bio-jet fuel production in the aviation sector: Challenges and perspective

Jackson Hwa Keen Lim et al.

Summary: The aviation sector contributes about 2% of global anthropogenic CO2 emissions, and efforts are being made to find cost-effective and environmentally-friendly bio-jet fuels derived from natural resources. Cultivation conditions for microalgae play a significant role in their growth rate and chemical composition, impacting the yield and quality of microalgae bio-jet fuel. The development of hydroprocessing techniques for converting microalgae oil into bio-jet fuel, as well as innovative approaches like gasification with Fischer-Tropsch and sugar-to-jet, offer promising alternatives to traditional aviation fuel production methods.
