Bio-Inspired Lotus-Fiber-like Spiral Hydrogel Bacterial Cellulose Fibers

Qing-Fang Guan et al.

Summary: This study introduces a bio-inspired hydrogel fiber with high strength, high stretchability, and high energy dissipation, named biomimetic hydrogel fiber (BHF). The spiral-like structure and breaking-reforming nature of the hydrogen bonding network among cellulose nanofibers endow BHF with outstanding properties for potential use in biomedicine. With its porous structure, high hydrophilicity, and excellent biocompatibility, BHF shows promise as an ideal surgical suture for protecting wounds.

Characterization of Anisotropic Human Hair Keratin Scaffolds Fabricated via Directed Ice Templating

Zhitong Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, anisotropic human hair keratin scaffolds with aligned pores were successfully fabricated using a directed ice templating method, which significantly enhanced the tensile strength of the scaffolds. In vitro results demonstrated that these anisotropic scaffolds can support the adhesion, spreading, and proliferation of human dermal fibroblasts, holding promise as templates for soft tissue regeneration.
