Forecast Impact of FORMOSAT-7/COSMIC-2 GNSS Radio Occultation Measurements

Benjamin Ruston et al.

Summary: The FORMOSAT-7/COSMIC-2 GNSS-RO mission launched in June 2019 has significantly increased GNSS-RO observations available for operational numerical weather prediction. The mission aims to improve GNSS-RO measurement quality in the lower and middle troposphere, with impacts observed in stratospheric temperatures and winds in the tropics. Additionally, the measurements have shown improvements in fitting tropical tropospheric humidity to radiosondes and radiances.

Inverting COSMIC-2 Phase Data to Bending Angle and Refractivity Profiles Using the Full Spectrum Inversion Method

Loknath Adhikari et al.

Summary: The radio occultation technique provides stable atmospheric measurements that can serve as a benchmark for calibrating and validating satellite-sounding data. The COSMIC-2 constellation, launched in 2019, is expected to produce high-quality observations daily over the tropics and subtropics. An independent inversion algorithm has been developed to analyze COSMIC-2 geometry and phase data, with stable position vectors and signal-to-noise ratio reported.
