A hybrid approach for recovering high-resolution temporal gravity fields from satellite laser ranging

Anno Loecher et al.

Summary: A new method for recovering time-variable gravity fields from satellite laser ranging (SLR) is presented, using a combination of spherical harmonics and EOFs to represent spatial patterns of the Earth's gravity field changes. While able to reproduce secular and seasonal signals with high accuracy within the GRACE time frame, the approach has limitations when dealing with smaller river basins with strong interannual mass variations.

Bridging the gap between GRACE and GRACE follow-on monthly gravity field solutions using improved multichannel singular spectrum analysis

Fengwei Wang et al.

Summary: This study aims to bridge the gap between GRACE and GRACE-FO missions using improved MSSA, successfully reconstructing continuous global mass change signals. The results demonstrate that this method can reliably connect the gravity field data between these two missions, outperforming Swarm solutions. Additionally, its efficient gap-filling ability is showcased in 25 major river basins.

In-situ and triple-collocation based evaluations of eight global root zone soil moisture products

Lei Xu et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the accuracy of eight RZSM products globally, with SMAP showing the highest correlation and lowest RMSE with in-situ stations in North America. In the TC analysis, MERRA-2 had the highest correlation and lowest error standard deviation with the unknown truth, followed by GLDAS, SMAP, JRA-55 and ERA-5.

Causes and implications of groundwater depletion in India: A review

Swarup Dangar et al.

Summary: Groundwater plays a crucial role in food and water security in India, but over-extraction has resulted in environmental issues. India is facing a serious challenge of groundwater depletion, which requires sustainable management to tackle.

Filling the Data Gaps Within GRACE Missions Using Singular Spectrum Analysis

Shuang Yi et al.

Summary: This study presents a non-parametric, data-adaptive method to fill the missing epochs in the monthly gravity product of satellite missions GRACE and GRACE-FO. Comparison in the spectral domain shows that the method achieves the same signal intensity as GRACE missions for spherical harmonic degrees below 30 and effectively suppresses noise as the degree increases above 30.

Contributions of Altimetry and Argo to Non-Closure of the Global Mean Sea Level Budget Since 2016

Anne Barnoud et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that the global mean sea level (GMSL) budget was closed within uncertainties from 1993-2016, but non-closure was observed after 2016 with data from Jason-3, Argo, and GRACE/GRACE Follow-On. Errors in data sets used for estimating GMSL and its components may have contributed to this non-closure.

Time-Variable Gravity Field from the Combination of HLSST and SLR

Luping Zhong et al.

Summary: Studying the time-variable gravity field of the Earth is crucial for understanding mass changes within the Earth's system. Monthly HLSST+SLR solutions demonstrate comparable accuracy to GRACE, with effective spatial resolution up to 1000 km. These solutions offer a viable alternative to estimate temporal changes in the Earth's gravity field, especially during gaps between GRACE missions.
