Optical and SAR Image Matching Using Pixelwise Deep Dense Features

Han Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes the use of a Siamese convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture to address the challenges in optical and SAR image matching. By learning pixelwise deep dense features, it balances the learning of high-level semantic information and low-level fine-grained information, resulting in more accurate and precise image matching.

SAE-Net: A Deep Neural Network for SAR Autofocus

Wei Pu

Summary: This article proposes a new deep neural network architecture, called the sparse autoencoder network (SAE-Net), to solve the sensitivity to motion errors in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging. The SAE-Net implements SAR imaging and autofocus simultaneously and is trained using a joint reconstruction loss and entropy loss. Tests on synthetic and real SAR data demonstrate that the proposed architecture outperforms other state-of-the-art autofocus methods in sparsity-driven SAR imaging applications.

SAR and optical images correlation illuminates post-seismic landslide motion after the Mw 7.8 Gorkha earthquake (Nepal)

Pascal Lacroix et al.

Summary: In the days to weeks following an earthquake, landslides can exhibit specific post-seismic motions, such as delayed initiation and post-seismic relaxation. This study investigates the co- and post-seismic motions of slow-moving landslides accelerated by the Gorkha earthquake in Nepal. The study identifies 11 slow-moving landslides over an area of 750 km(2) and monitors their motions using satellite images. The post-seismic motions of the landslides are found to be much larger than the co-seismic ones, with a delayed initiation of several days observed in some landslides. The study suggests that the post-seismic motions may be caused by diffusion of groundwater or internal reconfiguration of the landslides.

LNIFT: Locally Normalized Image for Rotation Invariant Multimodal Feature Matching

Jiayuan Li et al.

Summary: In this article, a simple but very effective multimodal feature matching algorithm called locally normalized image feature transform (LNIFT) is proposed. LNIFT reduces the nonlinear radiation distortion (NRD) between multimodal images by using a local normalization filter to convert original images into normalized images for feature detection and description. Experimental results show that LNIFT outperforms RIFT in terms of efficiency, success rate, and number of correct matches.

A Robust Two-Stage Registration Algorithm for Large Optical and SAR Images

Yuming Xiang et al.

Summary: Accurate registration of optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images is crucial for multisensor remote sensing applications. However, the practical implementation of directly matching large and high-resolution optical and SAR images remains underexplored. In this study, a robust two-stage registration algorithm is proposed to reduce positioning errors and optimize the correspondence. The algorithm utilizes a novel template matching method based on dilated convolutional feature (DCF) and epipolar-oriented phase correlation to achieve invariance and capture more overlapping areas. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Comparative Analysis of Edge Information and Polarization on SAR-to-Optical Translation Based on Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks

Qian Zhang et al.

Summary: This study explores the translation of SAR images to optical images using conditional adversarial networks (cGANs), which combines the advantages of optical and SAR images. The addition of edge information improves structural similarity, while using VH and VV&VH polarization modes as input provides more effective information and better image quality. The optimal polarization mode is VV&VH, and near-infrared and short-wave infrared bands exhibit higher accuracy in the generated image.
