Correspondence-driven plane-based M3C2 for lower uncertainty in 3D topographic change quantification

Vivien Zahs et al.

Summary: A correspondence-driven plane-based M3C2 approach is proposed for quantifying small-magnitude 3D topographic change of rough surfaces. This method reduces uncertainties and is applicable to natural scenes in photogrammetric or laser scanning point clouds.

Photogrammetry (SfM) vs. Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) for Archaeological Excavations: Mosaic of Cantillana (Spain) as a Case Study

Carmen Marin-Buzon et al.

Summary: The study aimed to compare two geomatics techniques in archaeological excavations, focusing on accuracy and errors, especially in altimetry. It was found that Structure from Motion (SfM) photogrammetry was the most accurate and least limiting for use in semi-buried archaeological excavations, opening new perspectives for its application in such contexts.

Assessing Repeatability and Reproducibility of Structure-from-Motion Photogrammetry for 3D Terrain Mapping of Riverbeds

Jessica De Marco et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the application of Structure-from-Motion (SfM) photogrammetry in geomorphological change detection and found that different survey acquisition and processing conditions can affect the repeatability and reproducibility of the results. By conducting multiple flights and analyzing the results in three different fluvial study areas, it was observed that surveys under the same conditions have high repeatability, while varying the camera used may lead to contrasting results, especially in areas with flat topography and homogeneous texturing. Additionally, the study confirmed the importance of the number of Ground Control Points (GCPs) entering the processing workflow, with different impacts depending on the camera used for the survey.

Case Report: Optimization of Topographic Change Detection With UAV Structure-From-Motion Photogrammetry Through Survey Co-Alignment

Tjalling de Haas et al.

Summary: High-quality digital surface models generated from imagery captured by unmanned aerial vehicles are increasingly used for topographic change detection. Co-aligning images of multiple surveys can enhance the accuracy of topographic change detection, with a significant increase in relative accuracy. It is essential to use ground control points for co-alignment to ensure high absolute accuracy, especially in areas with stable conditions.
