Analysis of UAV lidar information loss and its influence on the estimation accuracy of structural and functional traits in a meadow steppe

Xiaoxia Zhao et al.

Summary: Accurate quantification of grassland structural and functional traits is crucial for grassland management and restoration. UAV lidar technology is recognized as an accurate and effective technique for estimating vegetation traits at a local to regional scale. However, in grassland ecosystems, UAV lidar data loss is more prevalent at the canopy tops, which significantly impacts the estimation accuracy of grassland traits.

The morphometric acclimation to depth explains the long-term resilience of the seagrass Cymodocea nodosa in a shallow tidal lagoon

G. Peralta et al.

Summary: The study on Cymodocea nodosa in Cadiz Bay reveals strong seasonality in demographic and shoot dynamic properties, as well as differences in leaf morphometry depending on depth. Despite these differences, there were no significant disparities in meadow production balance between intertidal and subtidal populations, indicating the long-term resilience of the seagrass species. This research contributes to understanding seagrass stability and resilience mechanisms, particularly in the face of climate change.

A novel UAV-based approach for biomass prediction and grassland structure assessment in coastal meadows

M. Villoslada Pecina et al.

Summary: This study accurately predicted above-ground biomass in coastal meadows using UAV-derived datasets, and assessed grassland structural heterogeneity. The results suggest that continuous, monospecific grazing management may simplify grassland structure, reducing the supply of certain ecosystem services.

Using UAV LiDAR to Extract Vegetation Parameters of Inner Mongolian Grassland

Xiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of Riegl VUX-1 LiDAR system in estimating aboveground biomass in a grazing platform, and found that maximum canopy height and fractional vegetation coverage were the best predictors. Additionally, different flight altitudes had little effect on the derived vegetation parameters from LiDAR data.

Estimating Ground Elevation and Vegetation Characteristics in Coastal Salt Marshes Using UAV-Based LiDAR and Digital Aerial Photogrammetry

Daniele Pinton et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the skills of two types of drone-based point clouds, derived from LiDAR and photogrammetric techniques, in estimating ground elevation and vegetation characteristics on a salt marsh. Results show that LiDAR-based techniques provide more accurate reconstructions compared to Digital Aerial Photogrammetry (DAP). The classification procedure for vegetation calculation negligibly improves when RGB images are used as input parameters with the LiDAR-UAV point cloud.

Summary: This study successfully utilized LiDAR data to provide information on the vertical structure of mangroves, aiding in the classification of single-layered and dual-layered Kandelia obovata. LiDAR features played a more significant role in RF and SVM, while spectral features were more important in CNN.

TERRITORIAL IMPACTS OF SEA-LEVEL RISE IN MARSH ENVIRONMENTS. THE CASE OF THE BAY OF CADIZ, SPAIN

Francisco J. Vazquez Pinillos et al.

Summary: The rise in sea levels will result in significant changes in the marsh environment of the Bay of Cadiz, affecting environmental, social, cultural, and economic values, with the Natural Park being the most affected area. To address these changes, tailored territorial management needs to be introduced based on the projected results, applied to other variables to develop adaptation strategies at a subregional or local level.
