Effects of high operating temperatures and holding times on thermomechanical and mechanical properties of autoclaved epoxy/carbon composite laminates

Abd Baghad et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the thermomechanical and mechanical properties of autoclaved woven carbon fiber/epoxy composite laminate under different operating temperatures and holding times. As the operating temperature increases, the rigidity and stiffness of the epoxy resin matrix decrease, leading to a progressive decrease in all mechanical properties of the laminate.

Effect of thermal exposure on carbon fiber reinforced composites used in civil infrastructure rehabilitation

Vistasp M. Karbhari et al.

Summary: The study investigated the thermo-oxidative resistance of a wet layup ambient cured carbonepoxy composite using dynamic scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, and thermo-gravimetric analysis. Results showed that exposure to higher temperatures and longer periods of time led to deterioration of the thermal characteristics of the composite, while exposure at lower temperatures did not show degradation within the 72-hour period.

Effect of Thermal Ageing on the Mechanical Strength of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Epoxy Composites

Nicola Zavatta et al.

Summary: The study found that exposure of carbon fiber reinforced polymers to high temperatures can lead to permanent changes in their mechanical properties, particularly above the glass transition temperature of the resin. Even a brief exposure to operating temperatures above Tg could substantially impair the load-carrying capability of CFRP components.
