A Programmable Multifunctional 3D Cancer Cell Invasion Micro Platform

Qian Liu et al.

Summary: In the research of cancer cell invasion and metastasis, the recreation of physiologically relevant and faithful three-dimensional tumor models remains a challenge. Here, a programmable multifunctional 3D cancer cell invasion microbuckets-hydrogel platform is developed, which successfully mimics the invasion process of cancer cells and demonstrates the relationship between single-cell migration and collective cell migration during the epithelial-mesenchymal transition. This platform has the potential to mimic the dynamically changing tumor microenvironment and has wide applications in cancer research, bio-fabrication, cell signaling, and drug screening.

Gelatin/Gelatin-modified nano hydroxyapatite composite scaffolds with hollow channel arrays prepared by extrusion molding for bone tissue engineering

Xiliang Chen et al.

Summary: Researchers have successfully prepared scaffolds with hollow channels using a novel extrusion approach, providing a solution to the delivery of oxygen and nutrients for bone tissue engineering scaffolds. These gelatin/gelatin-modified nano hydroxyapatite composite scaffolds exhibit good mechanical properties and in vitro bioactivity, making them promising candidates for implant applications in bone tissue engineering.

Hypoxia-inducible factor-dependent ADAM12 expression mediates breast cancer invasion and metastasis

Ru Wang et al.

Summary: This study discovered that HIFs induce the expression of ADAM12, leading to EGFR signaling activation and subsequently promoting breast cancer cell migration, invasion, and metastasis. Inhibition of ADAM12 expression or activity can effectively reduce tumor cell migration, invasion, and lung metastasis.

Protein-Based 3D Biofabrication of Biomaterials

Mahta Mirzaei et al.

Summary: Protein/peptide-based hydrogel biomaterial inks are promising for 3D printing due to their ability to incorporate various cells and mimic the extracellular matrix. Proteins contain multiple functional groups essential for filament formation and printing, with gelation process involving unfolding and aggregation into a network stabilized by noncovalent and covalent cross-links. Various proteins can be obtained from natural or synthetic sources for tissue engineering applications.
