3D Printed and Conventional Membranes-A Review

Baye Gueye Thiam et al.

Summary: The review compares the production of polymer membranes using traditional methods and additive manufacturing in terms of cost, materials, structures, properties, performance, and environmental impact. Results indicate that 3D-printed membranes use fewer materials, show acceptable performance, better structures, and less environmental impact compared to conventional membranes.

Numerical Prediction for Temperature Profile of Parts Manufactured using Fused Filament Fabrication

H. R. Vanaei et al.

Summary: This study investigates the heat transfer in polymer/composite additive manufacturing through a combination of theoretical modeling and experimental data. The research finds that heat conduction between filaments, between filaments and support, and convection with the environment all affect the bonding quality of parts produced by fused filament fabrication. By varying several parameters, the developed model can be easily optimized.

Investigating inexpensive polymeric 3D printed materials under extreme thermal conditions

Jan Lukas Storck et al.

Summary: 3D printing technology is now widely used for applications far beyond rapid prototyping, particularly in areas with high requirements for mechanical, thermal, and optical properties. Polymeric 3D printed materials have advantages over metal objects for space applications, but different materials perform differently under high temperatures.

Extrusion-Based 3D Printing Applications of PLA Composites: A Review

Eda Hazal Tumer et al.

Summary: The widely used PLA in 3D printing poses challenges due to its mechanical weakness and water solubility, while the FDM approach offers cost-effective fabrication but with drawbacks in mechanical strength. Additives are crucial for enhancing the performance of FDM 3D-printed parts using PLA, leading to new developments in PLA composites.
