Lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases and other histidine-brace copper proteins: structure, oxygen activation and biotechnological applications

Johan O. Ipsen et al.

Summary: Lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are copper enzymes that catalyze the oxidative cleavage of glycosidic bonds, found in all biological kingdoms and used in industrial biorefineries. However, the introduction of LPMOs poses challenges in industrial reactors and reduces enzyme stability. Further research is needed to understand the interaction between LPMOs and their environments, as well as the molecular mechanisms involved in their function.

Metabolomic alterations associated with copper stress in Cryptococcus neoformans

Tianshu Sun et al.

Summary: Copper stress induces metabolic changes in Cryptococcus neoformans, particularly affecting amino acid and carbohydrate metabolism. When grown on glycerol or ethanol, C. neoformans shows better resistance to copper toxicity compared to growth on glucose.

Role and significance of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) in lignocellulose deconstruction

Reeta Rani Singhania et al.

Summary: Lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are oxidative enzymes that require partners to donate electrons during catalytic action on cellulose backbone and have been widely discussed. The challenges in the characterization of LPMOs and the detection of LPMOs in secretomes have been highlighted, making research on LPMOs difficult.

Transcription factor-driven alternative localization of Cryptococcus neoformans superoxide dismutase

Aaron D. Smith et al.

Summary: Cryptococcus neoformans adapts to fluctuating levels of copper in host niches through the Cu-sensing transcription factor Cuf1, which regulates the expression of SOD1 and SOD2. Under copper limitation, a novel cytosolic isoform of SOD2 is generated to maintain cellular antioxidant defense, affecting the fungal pathogen's ability to colonize host organs.

Adsorption process and mechanism of heavy metal ions by different components of cells, using yeast (Pichia pastoris) and Cu2+ as biosorption models

Xinggang Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the biosorption process and mechanism of different components of microbial cells using Pichia pastoris X33 and Cu2+ as a model. Various components of the microbial cells showed different Cu2+ removal efficiencies, with the highest adsorption capacity found in the cytoplasm. The FTIR spectra demonstrated potential interactions between Cu2+ and specific functional groups in the cell components.
