Adenovirus Co-Opts Neutrophilic Inflammation to Enhance Transduction of Epithelial Cells

James M. Readler et al.

Summary: Human adenoviruses (HAdV) can cause various infections, and neutrophils enhance viral transmission in epithelial cells. In this study, neutrophil serine proteases were found to be critical for neutrophil-enhanced epithelial cell infection. Additionally, neutrophil elastase could activate autophagy in epithelial cells, leading to increased viral transmission.

Quantitative proteomics reveals the selectivity of ubiquitin-binding autophagy receptors in the turnover of damaged lysosomes by lysophagy

Vinay V. Eapen et al.

Summary: The study investigates the lysophagy process by examining the proteomic landscape of lysosome-associated proteins during lysophagy. It reveals the crucial role of TAX1BP1 in driving lysophagic flux and provides a resource for further research on lysophagy.

FIP200 controls the TBK1 activation threshold at SQSTM1/p62-positive condensates

David Schluetermann et al.

Summary: TBK1 is recruited to SQSTM1/p62-containing aggregates via the autophagy receptor TAX1BP1, where it phosphorylates SQSTM1/p62 at serine 403 to regulate the clearance of these structures. Activation of TBK1 is significantly increased when autophagy-inducing component FIP200 is absent or unable to bind to TAX1BP1, suggesting FIP200 plays a role in the inducible activation of TBK1 at SQSTM1/p62 condensates.
