Trade-environment nexus in OIC countries: fresh insights from environmental Kuznets curve using GHG emissions and ecological footprint

Sajid Ali et al.

Summary: The study found that trade openness has a negative impact on CO2, CH4, and N2O emissions in OIC countries, but a positive impact on ecological footprint. In lower income OIC countries, trade openness is positively associated with all environmental indicators. Additionally, an inverted-U-shaped EKC exists in all OIC countries when CO2, CH4, and ecological footprint are used as environmental indicators.

The impact of financial development and globalization on environmental quality: evidence from South Asian economies

Tasmeena Tahir et al.

Summary: The study examined the impact of financial development, globalization, and energy use on the environmental quality of South Asian economies. Results showed that financial development contributes to carbon emissions, while globalization has the potential to control emissions. It is suggested that South Asian countries should monitor loan disbursement and promote green financing to ensure environmental sustainability.

Analysis of the New Kuznets Relationship: Considering Emissions of Carbon, Methanol, and Nitrous Oxide Greenhouse Gases-Evidence from EU Countries

Mara Madaleno et al.

Summary: This study aims to test the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis and finds a U-shaped relationship in the short run when considering different greenhouse gas emission indicators and the EU 15 and EU 12 member states. However, the results only partially validate the EKC hypothesis in some EU 12 countries, showing sensitivity to models and measures adopted. The externalization of global problems requires a longer period for national policies to correct, making global measures more challenging and local environmental proxies more suitable for exploring the EKC hypothesis deeply.
