Chronic Mental Health Sequelae of Climate Change Extremes: A Case Study of the Deadliest Californian Wildfire

Sarita Silveira et al.

Summary: This study focused on the mental health impacts of the deadliest wildfire in California, the Camp Fire of 2018. The Impact of Wildfires on Mental Health: A Scoping Review

Patricia To et al.

Summary: Wildfires, as a consequence of climate change, have been found to have a significant impact on mental health by increasing rates of PTSD, depression, and generalized anxiety in survivors in both adult and pediatric populations. Key risk factors include characteristics of the wildfire trauma itself, and new terms such as ecological grief, solastalgia, and eco-anxiety have emerged in literature to describe the impact of natural disasters on mental health. Resilience and recovery post-wildfire can be influenced by patient factors and systemic changes.
