Psychosocial Outcomes of Individuals Attending a Suicide Bereavement Peer Support Group: A Follow-Up Study

Eve Griffin et al.

Summary: This study examined the psychosocial outcomes of individuals attending suicide bereavement peer support groups in Ireland. The findings showed that participants had lower levels of overall wellbeing, higher rates of depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation compared to the general population. However, follow-up surveys showed significant improvements in wellbeing and a reduction in grief reactions after participating in the support groups. Participants identified the groups as creating a safe space and providing a sense of belonging and hope.
