Spatial-Temporal Features of Coordination Relationship between Regional Urbanization and Rail Transit-A Case Study of Beijing

Xuanxuan Xia et al.

Summary: Urban rail transit plays a crucial role in relieving urban congestion and promoting compact city development. However, there is limited research on the spatial-temporal coupling between urbanization and rail transit, particularly at the urban scale. Using Beijing as a case study, this research constructs a comprehensive indicator system for regional urbanization and rail transit, and explores their spatiotemporal coupling coordination. The results reveal that there is an unbalanced development and fluctuating trend in the coupling coordination between urbanization and rail transit. The distribution of coupling coordination degree varies across different regions, with higher levels observed in central urban areas compared to outer suburbs. Additionally, there is a spatial correlation and similar changing trend in the coupling coordination degree between different systems. These findings can inform the rational planning of urban rail transit construction to achieve sustainable development.

A hybrid deep learning framework with physical process description for simulation of evapotranspiration

Han Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposes an improved Penman-Monteith formula and integrates it into a deep learning model to create a hybrid DL model for ET simulation. The results show that the hybrid DL model improves the predictive capability of ET compared to the original DL model and performs well in predicting extreme events. Sensitivity analysis reveals that vegetation parameters have the highest influence on ET simulations. This research achieves the seamless integration of machine learning and physical mechanism-based ET models, providing a new dimension for ET simulation.

Development and Evaluation of a Saturated Zone Module in an Integrated Urban Hydrological Model

Yinghao Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a new approach is proposed to improve the simulation of urban groundwater flow by integrating a flow module with a distributed urban hydrological model. The performance of the integrated model is evaluated using piezometric and runoff data, showing that it can better simulate water table variations but has limited improvement on flowrate simulation.

How reliable are the evapotranspiration estimates by Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) and Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC) models for catchment-scale drought assessment and irrigation planning?

Sonam Sandeep Dash et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the usability of different indirect ET estimation methods for catchment-scale drought and irrigation planning, revealing discrepancies in the estimation results. It shows that the VIC-3L model may significantly overestimate ET, while the MOD16A2 product provides relatively more accurate estimates.

Mechanisms and Empirical Modeling of Evaporation from Hardened Surfaces in Urban Areas

Jinjun Zhou et al.

Summary: Urban evaporation from hardened surfaces is often underestimated, but it plays a significant role in urban water balance and hydrological cycle. Impervious hardened surfaces' evaporation is influenced by rainfall and frost days, while pervious hardened surfaces show continuous and periodic variations.
