Morphological and physiological parameters influence the use efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus by Eucalyptus seedlings

Matheus Severo de Souza Kulmann et al.

Summary: Morpho-physiological characteristics in Eucalyptus species can determine N and P use efficiency, with Eucalyptus grandis showing the highest NUE and PUE values. Root morphological parameters play a key role in predicting the ability of development of Eucalyptus species under low N and P availability.

Enhancing potassium content in leaves and stems improves drought tolerance of eucalyptus clones

Elcio Ferreira Santos et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the potassium dynamic nutrition in eucalyptus in response to soil-K and -water availabilities, finding that eucalyptus clones with sufficient potassium were able to maintain biomass accumulation under severe drought conditions compared to those with low potassium levels. The importance of potassium nutrition in maintaining leaf photochemical processes was highlighted, showing positive correlations between potassium use efficiency and electron transport rate through photosystem II in plants grown in low potassium conditions. Management strategies should focus on enhancing potassium nutrition to optimize water-use efficiencies and photosynthesis.

Eucalyptus expansion in Brazil: Energy yield in new forest frontiers

Thammi Queuri Gomes da Cunha et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the yield and wood characteristics of five Eucalyptus spp. clones at three sites in the Midwest region of Brazil. The energy yield and wood characteristics of Eucalyptus spp. were influenced by genotype, environment, and their interaction. The E. urophylla x E. camaldulensis clone showed good performance under adverse conditions and may be suitable for large-scale forest implantation in the Corumb ' a region.

Vertical decoupling of soil nutrients and water under climate warming reduces plant cumulative nutrient uptake, water-use efficiency and productivity

Jose Ignacio Querejeta et al.

Summary: Global warming-induced topsoil desiccation alters plant water and nutrient utilization patterns. Plants shift towards utilizing water stored in deeper layers under warming, but this response cannot compensate for the reduction in nutrient uptake and carbon assimilation.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in the rhizosphere of soybean in integrated crop livestock systems with intercropping in the pasture phase

Gabriela Castro Pires et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the diversity and quantitative characteristics of AMF in Integrated Crop Livestock Systems under no-tillage (ICLS-NT) with intercrop in the pasture phase. The results showed that intercropping legumes with grasses can enhance mycorrhizal colonization, increase fungal species diversity, and ultimately lead to higher soybean productivity.

Nutrient accumulation and nutritional efficiency in eucalyptus

Antonio Joao de Lima Neto et al.

Summary: This study used the boundary-line method to investigate the nutrient accumulation in eucalyptus shoots. Plants with higher potassium accumulation showed reduced absorption of nitrogen, phosphorus, and magnesium, indicating lower efficiency in the use of nutrients.

Interference of Commelina benghalensis in the initial growth of Eucalyptus grandis in winter and summer

Augusto Guerreiro Fontoura Costa et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of increasing densities of Commelina benghalensis on the initial growth of Eucalyptus grandis plants, finding that a density of 4 plants/m(-2) negatively affected eucalyptus growth with significant reductions in leaf area and dry mass. The weed exhibited a more aggressive competitive behavior in summer, causing greater interference with eucalyptus growth.

Forage Potential of Non-Native Guinea Grass in North African Agroecosystems: Genetic, Agronomic, and Adaptive Traits

Mohamed Ali Benabderrahim et al.

Summary: Guinea grass, originally native to Africa, has been introduced to various tropical countries as a valuable source of animal forage. However, its introduction to new arid regions may impact the ecosystem diversity, thus requiring further genetic and eco-physiological research and management to ensure its success in integrated forage/livestock systems.
