Speech Biomarkers in Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Behavior Disorder and Parkinson Disease

Jan Rusz et al.

Summary: This multilanguage study utilized simple speech recording and high-end pattern analysis to provide sensitive and reliable noninvasive biomarkers for patients with iRBD and early-stage PD. Significant abnormalities in speech severity measures were found in both iRBD and PD groups, with distinctions in certain speech characteristics observed between the two groups. This automated speech analysis may serve as a useful additional biomarker for assessing disease progression and therapeutic interventions in parkinsonism.

Biomarkers of conversion to α-synucleinopathy in isolated rapid-eye-movement sleep behaviour disorder

Mitchell G. Miglis et al.

Summary: Patients with isolated rapid-eye-movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD) are considered to be in the early stages of progressive neurodegenerative diseases involving alpha-synuclein pathology, such as Parkinson's disease or multiple system atrophy. Developing reliable biomarkers is crucial for predicting disease progression, monitoring treatment response, and predicting the subtype of alpha-synucleinopathy patients with isolated RBD.
