A Multifunctional Origami Patch for Minimally Invasive Tissue Sealing

Sarah J. Wu et al.

Summary: A new strategy for minimally invasive tissue sealing, using a multilayer bioadhesive patch, is introduced. The patch features three distinct functional layers which enable robust adhesion to tissue surfaces in the presence of blood, as well as superior resistance to bacterial adhesion, fibrinogen adsorption, and in vivo fibrous capsule formation. The patch can be readily integrated with a variety of minimally invasive end effectors to provide facile tissue sealing in diverse clinical scenarios.

Okra (Abelmoschus Esculentus) as a Potential Dietary Medicine with Nutraceutical Importance for Sustainable Health Applications

Abd Elmoneim O. Elkhalifa et al.

Summary: There has been a shift towards safer phytotherapies for managing chronic diseases, with okra being a popular vegetable crop with potential therapeutic properties. Different parts of the okra fruit contain important bioactive components with medicinal properties, yet research on the pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of okra is lacking. Despite its low-cost availability and potential health benefits, further studies are needed to enhance the understanding of okra's nutraceutical significance for commercial production against chronic diseases.

Viscosity and degradation controlled injectable hydrogel for esophageal endoscopic submucosal dissection

Chaoqiang Fan et al.

Summary: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a common procedure for treating early and precancerous gastrointestinal lesions, using saline or hydrogels for submucosal injection. A nature derived hydrogel of gelatin-oxidized alginate (G-OALG) showed higher performances in controllable gelation and injectability compared to traditional liquid solutions.

Snake extract-laden hemostatic bioadhesive gel cross-linked by visible light

Yicheng Guo et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel visible light-induced blood-resistant hemostatic adhesive (HAD) that efficiently achieves hemostasis by activating and aggregating platelets. HAD demonstrates excellent hemostatic performance on liver incision and severed rat tail, significantly reducing blood loss.
