Prevalence of Tumor Genomic Alterations in Homologous Recombination Repair Genes Among Taiwanese Breast Cancers

Chi-Cheng Huang et al.

Summary: Deleterious germline BRCA1/2 mutations are highly pathogenic variants in hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome. Recent research has focused on genes involved in homologous recombination repair (HRR) pathways that may have clinical implications beyond BRCA1/2 mutations. This study evaluated the prevalence of BRCA1/2 mutations and alterations in HRR genes in Taiwanese breast cancer patients. The results showed a low prevalence of BRCA1/2 mutations, but a higher prevalence of HRR gene mutations, suggesting opportunities for targeted treatments in breast cancer.

The clinical value of detecting microcalcifications on a mammogram

Tibor Tot et al.

Summary: Breast lesions associated with microcalcifications can be detected by mammography, aiding in early detection of breast carcinoma and influencing the extent of surgical intervention. Certain types of microcalcifications are linked to negative genetic and molecular characteristics of tumors, with microcalcifications in larger ducts having a greater impact on prognosis.

Metformin relieves H/R-induced cardiomyocyte injury through miR-19a/ACSL axis - possible therapeutic target for myocardial I/R injury

Cai-Liang Peng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of the miR-19a/ACSL axis in H/R-induced myocardial injury and the protective effect of metformin through this axis. The findings suggest that metformin can alleviate H/R-induced cell injury by regulating the miR-19a/ACSL axis, providing potential targets for myocardial I/R injury therapy.

Comprehensive landscape of epigenetic-dysregulated lncRNAs reveals a profound role of enhancers in carcinogenesis in BC subtypes

Hongying Zhao et al.

Summary: Aberrant expression of long non-coding RNAs is associated with altered DNA methylation and histone modifications during carcinogenesis, presenting challenges for cancer studies. This study systematically analyzed epigenetic alterations of lncRNAs in breast cancer subtypes, identifying dysregulated lncRNAs and potential prognostic biomarkers. Epigenetically dysregulated lncRNAs at enhancer elements played a role in subtype-specific biological functions, highlighting their potential prognostic value in breast cancer subtypes.

Prolactin receptor-driven combined luminal and epithelial differentiation in breast cancer restricts plasticity, stemness, tumorigenesis and metastasis

Anwar Shams et al.

Summary: This study shows that interfering with the expression of the prolactin receptor can lead to dedifferentiation of breast cancer cells and enrichment of stem-like cell subpopulations, increasing tumorigenic capacity. Loss of PRLR expression in different breast cancer subtypes results in distinct phenotypes with increased tumorigenicity and resistance to therapy.

An Overview of PARP Inhibitors for the Treatment of Breast Cancer

Laura Cortesi et al.

Summary: Loss-of-function mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 are detected in at least 5% of unselected patients with breast cancer, and PARP inhibitors such as Olaparib and talazoparib have demonstrated significant progression-free survival benefits for some patients. Additional studies are ongoing to explore the efficacy and safety of PARP inhibitors in different patient populations and in combination therapies.

CDKN1C as a prognostic biomarker correlated with immune infiltrates and therapeutic responses in breast cancer patients

Jianguo Lai et al.

Summary: This study aimed to predict overall survival and treatment responses in breast cancer patients using a CDKN1C-based model. Results showed that low CDKN1C expression was associated with shorter survival, and the nomogram had superior predictive accuracy compared to traditional staging systems.
