Fibrolytic rumen bacteria of camel and sheep and their applications in the bioconversion of barley straw to soluble sugars for biofuel production

Alaa Emara L. Rabee et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the hydrolysis of barley straw through the inoculation of camel and sheep rumen fluid. The results showed that rumen fluid from sheep produced higher glucose, xylose, and gas, while rumen fluid from camels was associated with higher ethanol production from cellulose hydrolysates. The bacterial communities attached to barley straw were dominated by phylum Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes, with important genera such as RC9_gut_group, Ruminococcus, Saccharofermentans, and Butyrivibrio playing key roles in lignocellulose fermentation. The findings suggest that bacterial communities in camel and sheep have great potential in improving the utilization of lignocellulosic material.

Ruminal bacterial community is associated with the variations of total milk solid content in Holstein lactating cows

Kaizhen Liu et al.

Summary: The total milk solid (TMS) content is an important indicator of milk quality. Variations in rumen bacterial community have been found to be associated with TMS in dairy cows. This study investigated the relationship between rumen bacteria and TMS content in Holstein dairy cows. The results showed that the dry matter intake and specific bacteria in the rumen were significantly related to TMS content.

Alterations in the Rumen Particle-Associated Microbiota of Goats in Response to Dietary Supplementation Levels of Schizochytrium spp.

Alexandros Mavrommatis et al.

Summary: Fat rich microorganisms like microalgae Schizochytrium spp. may be beneficial in reducing methane-producing microorganisms and improving feed degradation in goats' rumen. This study found significant decreases in methanogens and other key microbes in goats fed with microalgae, suggesting a potential sustainable nutritional strategy for methane inhibition in rumen microbiota.

Dietary Supplementation of Yeast Culture Into Pelleted Total Mixed Rations Improves the Growth Performance of Fattening Lambs

Baijun Song et al.

Summary: The study found that live yeast cells could not survive during pelleting, leading to the feeding of dead yeast and its metabolites. Supplementation of YC resulted in increased average daily gain and improved digestibility of fibre, while not affecting the digestibility of other components. Additionally, YC supplementation altered the rumen bacterial population and species.
