The Event-Related Potentials Responding to Outcome Valence and Expectancy Violation during Feedback Processing

Yan Gu et al.

Summary: FRN is believed to encode reward prediction error, but studies have conflicting views on whether it reflects unsigned or signed prediction error. It is unclear if FRN is sensitive to the interaction of outcome valence and prediction error, or simply responsive to the absolute size of prediction error. The study demonstrates that FRN is sensitive to outcome valence and expectancy violation, exhibiting a preferential response depending on the emphasized dimension.

Social distance modulates outcome processing when comparing abilities with others

Siqi Liu et al.

Summary: Social comparison is influenced by social distance, with closer friends having a greater impact on outcome processing compared to distant strangers. The study showed that individuals allocated more attention resources to the stranger's outcome during both the early and later processing stages, indicating a different role of social distance in different stages of outcome processing.

Expectations of reward and efficacy guide cognitive control allocation

R. Fromer et al.

Summary: According to the Expected Value of Control theory, people integrate information about expected rewards and task performance efficacy to determine the expected value of control. The study found that participants invest more cognitive control when it is more rewarding and efficacious, and these incentive components modulate EEG signatures of incentive evaluation and proactive control allocation separately. People only exert cognitive effort if they believe the benefits outweigh the costs, by considering expected rewards and the importance of their effort in obtaining those rewards.

Social value orientation modulates fairness processing during social decision-making: evidence from behavior and brain potentials

Xinmu Hu et al.

Summary: Prosocial individuals are more likely to reject unfair offers with stronger emotional reactions compared to proself individuals. Prosocials show greater neural sensitivity to fairness in early processing stages and exhibit stronger fairness effects on ERP components relative to proselfs. Neural responses to unfair vs fair offers, particularly the MFN, play important roles in behavioral responses to unfairness as modulated by SVO.

Self-Control, Consideration of Future Consequences, and Internet Addiction among Chinese Adolescents: The Moderating Effect of Deviant Peer Affiliation

Jingjing Li et al.

Summary: The study found that consideration of future consequences mediated the relationship between self-control and internet addiction. Additionally, the relationship between future consequence consideration and internet addiction was moderated by deviant peer affiliation. These results highlight the potential mediating role of consideration of future consequences in linking self-control to adolescent internet addiction, as well as the weakening effect of high deviant peer affiliation on the protective role of future consequence consideration against internet addiction.
