Noncollinear electro-optic sampling detection of terahertz pulses in a LiNbO3 crystal while avoiding the effect of intrinsic birefringence

A. Shugurov et al.

Summary: We propose and experimentally confirm an efficient electro-optic sampling method for high-resolution measurement of broadband terahertz waveforms using a LiNbO3 crystal. The method employs a configuration where the probe laser beam propagates along the optical axis of the crystal, avoiding the adverse effects of intrinsic birefringence without the need for additional optical elements. To achieve velocity matching, the terahertz wave is introduced into the crystal through a Si prism at the Cherenkov angle to the probe beam. The feasibility of the scheme at different wavelengths of the probe optical beam (800 and 1550 nm) is demonstrated.

Flexible Terahertz Photonic Light-Cage Modules for In-Core Sensing and High Temperature Applications

Alessio Stefani et al.

Summary: Terahertz technology is a growing field in sensing and telecommunications. Researchers have developed photonic terahertz light cages (THzLCs) using 3D-printing technology, which guide light within a central hollow core. They demonstrate the design flexibility of THzLCs and characterize the propagation and bend losses in straight and curved waveguides. Additionally, they discuss appropriate figures of merit for evaluating the performance of light cage guidance.

Terahertz generation from ZnTe optically pumped above and below the bandgap

Dongwei Zhai et al.

Summary: THz waves can be generated through optical rectification in ZnTe using femtosecond laser pulses with photon energy tuned relative to the ZnTe bandgap energy. The THz signal exhibits a pronounced peak at the bandgap energy, likely due to the resonance of the ZnTe nonlinear susceptibility in the vicinity of the bandgap.
