Association between maternal triglycerides and disturbed glucose metabolism in pregnancy

Daniel Eppel et al.

Summary: Research has shown that elevated triglycerides at the start of pregnancy are closely related to insulin resistance and beta-cell dysfunction, leading to higher mean glucose levels in early- and mid-gestation. Furthermore, pregnant women with elevated triglycerides in early pregnancy are at an increased risk of developing gestational diabetes.

Evaluation of fetal cardiac function in pregnancies with well-controlled gestational diabetes

F. D'Ambrosi et al.

Summary: This study found that fetal right ventricular filling time was significantly shorter in pregnancies affected by gestational diabetes, indicating that fetal right cardiac function may be affected even when the diabetes is well controlled. Left ventricular filling time was also shorter in the GD group, although the difference was not significant.

Toward a Multivariate Prediction Model of Pharmacological Treatment for Women With Gestational Diabetes Mellitus: Algorithm Development and Validation

Carmelo Velardo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of a machine learning model to automatically evaluate the need for pharmacological treatment in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus. The model analyzed blood glucose data and risk factors to predict the initiation of medication, showing improved flexibility and accuracy in clinical decision-making. Further real-time clinical testing is needed for validation using real-world data.

Using an erythrocyte fatty acid fingerprint to predict risk of all-cause mortality: the Framingham Offspring Cohort

Michael McBurney et al.

Summary: The study compared a combination of red blood cell FA levels with standard risk factors for CVD and found that red blood cell FA patterns were as predictive of risk for death during the next 11 years as standard risk factors. This suggests that the FA fingerprint may serve as a potential predictor of all-cause mortality.

Virtual non-compliance with Omega-3 treatment results in null effects: The RANGER study

William S. Harris et al.

Summary: The recent paper found that a 14-week treatment with 2100 mg of EPA+DHA from krill oil had no effect on cognitive function in US Army Ranger trainees, primarily due to poor compliance. The effective compliance was calculated to be <3%, emphasizing the importance of adhering to ISSFAL recommendations for reporting blood Omega-3 levels in intervention studies to interpret findings accurately.
