Adherence to Eye Drops Usage in Dry Eye Patients and Reasons for Non-Compliance: A Web-Based Survey

Miki Uchino et al.

Summary: This study investigated the actual use of eye drops for dry eye disease (DED), the reasons for instillation behavior, and the relationship between instillation behavior and subjective symptoms. The findings revealed that most participants did not use eye drops at the specified frequency to alleviate symptoms. Regular instillation at the specified frequency resulted in better improvement of subjective symptoms, while younger patients who used contact lenses and over-the-counter eye drops were more likely to deviate from the specified frequency.

Prevalence of symptomatic dry eye disease with associated risk factors among medical students at Chiang Mai University due to increased screen time and stress during COVID-19 pandemic

Chulaluck Tangmonkongvoragul et al.

Summary: Dry eye disease (DED) has a high prevalence of 70.8% among medical students, with factors such as female gender, contact lens use, and high stress scores being associated with a higher risk of DED. Early management strategies focusing on modifiable risk factors like contact lens use and psychological stress may be beneficial for preventing DED in this population.

Prevalence and risk factors of dry eye in 79,866 participants of the population-based Lifelines cohort study in the Netherlands

Jelle Vehof et al.

Summary: This study revealed that dry eye symptoms are particularly common among young adults and are associated with comorbidities in multiple body systems. Factors such as female sex, contact lens use, and eye surgery showed strong associations with dry eye. Further research is needed to investigate the impact of dry eye across different age groups.

Effect of nanoencapsulation of blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus): A green source of flavonoids with antioxidant and photoprotective properties

Julia Gomes Franco et al.

Summary: The study improved the photoprotection and antioxidant properties of blueberry extract using nanoencapsulation technology, ensuring stability in an oil-in-water emulsion. The loading of the extract into nanoparticles maintained their physicochemical properties, SPF, and antioxidant activity, suggesting the developed formulation could be a greener alternative for photoprotection. The synergistic effect of blueberry flavonoids and nanoparticles against skin aging was discussed.
