Determination of Graphene Oxide Adsorption Space by Lysozyme Uptake-Mechanistic Studies

Paulina Erwardt et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interaction between graphene oxide (GO) and lysozyme (LYZ) in aqueous solution for GO surface area determination and thermodynamic description. Experimental results show that LYZ is a better adsorbate than methylene blue and fluorescence spectroscopy suggests that LYZ molecules interact with GO at both high- and low-affinity sites, indicating protein mono- and multilayer formation.

Potential bioactive coating system for high-performance absorbable magnesium bone implants

Murni Nazira Sarian et al.

Summary: Magnesium alloys are considered the most suitable absorbable metals for bone fracture fixation implants. A bioactive coating is proposed to slow down the corrosion rate of magnesium alloys and facilitate the bone fracture healing process. Hydroxyapatite, collagen type I, recombinant human bone morphogenetic proteins 2, simvastatin, zoledronate, and strontium show high potential for developing a bioactive coating system for absorbable magnesium bone implants. Additionally, alloying magnesium with calcium, zinc, copper, and manganese can also enhance the bioactivity of the substrate.
