Long-Term Behavior of Cement Mortars Based on Municipal Solid Waste Slag and Natural Zeolite-A Comprehensive Physico-Mechanical, Structural and Chemical Assessment

Marta Thomas et al.

Summary: Due to limitations in natural aggregate resources and the increasing demand for concrete, as well as the production and storage issues of waste, attempts have been made to replace the sand fraction in cement with slag fraction. Municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) slag, a byproduct of waste incineration, can be used as an aggregate to extend its lifespan and reduce landfill waste. Tests conducted on cement mortars with different aggregate compositions showed similar strength properties and demonstrated the effectiveness of immobilizing harmful substances present in MSWI slag through cementing.

Cellulose Nanofibrils as a Damping Material for the Production of Highly Crystalline Nanosized Zeolite Y via Ball Milling

Haya Nassrullah et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of adding biodegradable and recyclable cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) to zeolite Y in a wet ball milling approach. The optimal zeolite Y to CNFs ratio was found to be 1:1, resulting in a median particle size diameter of 100 nm and crystallinity index of 32%. The addition of CNFs protected the zeolite Y particles and increased their adsorption capacity.

Mineralogical and Technological Characterization of Zeolites from Basin and Range as Pozzolanic Addition of Cement

Giovanna Montesano et al.

Summary: This paper assesses the characteristics of zeolitic tuff samples from different districts in western USA, specifically looking at their petrographic, mineralogical, chemical, and technological features. The results show that tuff samples containing phillipsite have higher pozzolanic activity and reactivity with CaO, making them suitable for the preparation of blended cements. This has the potential to greatly reduce CO2 emissions by 70-90%.

Efficient Adsorption-Assisted Photocatalysis Degradation of Congo Red through Loading ZIF-8 on KI-Doped TiO2

Zhechen Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) was evenly loaded on the surface of KI-doped TiO2, resulting in a ZIF-8@TiO2 (KI) adsorption photocatalyst with excellent adsorption and photocatalytic properties. The doped I inhibited grain growth, reduced TiO2 crystallite size, narrowed the band gap width and improved light utilization. The combination of ZIF-8 and TiO2 increased the specific surface area and reaction sites. The photocatalytic performance of ZIF-8@TiO2 (KI) was validated using Congo red, showing high degradation efficiency.

Characterization and biological properties of nanostructured clinoenstatite scaffolds for bone tissue engineering applications

H. R. Bakhsheshi-Rad et al.

Summary: The study fabricated highly porous clinoenstatite scaffolds with different micropore sizes and outstanding interconnectivity, whose compressive strength was increased by enhancing NaCl particle size while reducing pore size and interconnectivity. Nano structured CLEN scaffolds with pore sizes ranging from 450-650 μm and porosity above 77-81% exhibited superior compressive strength. The antimicrobial performance of MTZ-embedded CLEN scaffolds against Fn and Aa bacteria improved with increasing MTZ loading, showing potential for bone repair in tissue engineering applications.
