Ferroptosis as a Novel Determinant of β-Cell Death in Diabetic Conditions

Ana Stancic et al.

Summary: The study discovered that high glucose, hydrogen peroxide, and streptozotocin can induce ferroptosis in beta cells, while cytokines cannot. Activating Nrf2 might be a promising approach to combat diabetes.

Do second generation sequencing techniques identify documented genetic markers for neonatal diabetes mellitus?

Imran Ali Khan

Summary: Neonatal diabetes mellitus (NDM) is a rare genetic disease caused by mutations in the KCNJ11 and ABCC8 genes. First-generation sequencing techniques like Sanger sequencing have limitations, leading to the adoption of second-generation techniques like NGS, which sequences nucleic acids more rapidly and economically. Second-generation techniques are recommended for future studies to identify genetic variations in NDM children.

Amino-acid amendment of Arginine-325-Tryptophan in rs13266634 genetic polymorphism studies of the SLC30A8 gene with type 2 diabetes-mellitus patients featuring a positive family history in the Saudi population

Khalid Khalaf Alharbi et al.

Summary: This study examined the genetic relationship between the rs13266634 polymorphism in the SLC30A8 gene and T2DM in a Saudi population with a family history. The findings confirmed a strong genetic association between T2DM cases and controls, especially in terms of allele, genotypes, and patterns of inheritance. However, there was no significant association found between T2DM cases and biochemical parameters.
