Finely Tuning the Lower Critical Solution Temperature of Ionogels by Regulating the Polarity of Polymer Networks and Ionic Liquids

Lie Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the compatibility between polymer networks and ionic liquids (ILs) in nonvolatile ionogels and finds that the LCST is primarily determined by the polarity of polymer side chains and the alkyl chain on cations of ILs. It also shows that the oriented solvation between polymers and ILs caused by hydrogen-bonding effects and van der Waals interactions may serve as the driving force for the LCST phase behavior.

Light-Assisted CO2 Hydrogenation over Pd3Cu@UiO-66 Promoted by Active Sites in Close Proximity

Li-Li Ling et al.

Summary: This study presents the synthesis of Pd3Cu@UiO-66 for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. Under light irradiation, Pd3Cu@UiO-66 exhibits a higher methanol production rate, attributed to the photo-induced electron transfer and the proximity between CO2 and H2 activation sites in the Pd3Cu microenvironment.

Structures of cationic and anionic polyelectrolytes in aqueous solutions: the sign effect

Chengjiang Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, the structures of anionic and cationic polyelectrolytes in aqueous solutions were explored using molecular dynamics simulation. The solvation effects of anions and cations were found to be significantly different, leading to the structural differences observed in the polyelectrolytes. Additionally, the correlations between polyelectrolytes, counterions, and solvent molecules were found to play a role in determining the molecular architectures of the polyelectrolytes in solution.

Non-Bonding Interaction of Neighboring Fe and Ni Single-Atom Pairs on MOF-Derived N-Doped Carbon for Enhanced CO2 Electroreduction

Long Jiao et al.

Summary: Through the direct pyrolysis of MOFs assembled with Fe and Ni-doped ZnO nanoparticles, a novel Fe-1-Ni-1-N-C catalyst with neighboring Fe and Ni single-atom pairs on nitrogen-doped carbon support has been precisely constructed. The synergism of neighboring Fe and Ni single-atom pairs significantly boosts the electrocatalytic reduction of CO2, surpassing catalysts with separate Fe or Ni single atoms. The study reveals the importance of the communicative effect between adjacent single atoms for improved catalysis in single-atom catalysts containing multiple metal species.

Catalytic C-O bond cleavage in a β-O-4 lignin model through intermolecular hydrogen transfer

Muhammad Ahsan Usman et al.

Summary: A base-free and redox neutral approach has been developed for the selective breaking of aryl ether bond in a lignin model compound mimicking a 13-O-4 linkage. Palladium-loaded metal-organic framework serves as a catalyst for dehydrogenation of benzylic alcohol moiety followed by hydrogenolysis of the ether bonds, eliminating the need for an external hydrogen source.

Modulating Coordination Environment of Single-Atom Catalysts and Their Proximity to Photosensitive Units for Boosting MOF Photocatalysis

Xing Ma et al.

Summary: A general and facile strategy for the construction of high-loading single-atom catalysts with a tunable coordination microenvironment has been developed based on metal-organic frameworks. The well-accessible and atomically dispersed metal sites possess close proximity to photosensitive units, greatly accelerating charge transfer and promoting photocatalysis. The optimized Ni-1-S/MOF with a unique Ni(I) microenvironment presents excellent photocatalytic H-2 production activity, surpassing other counterparts.
