Catalytic Activities of Low-Coordinated Ce for Methane Conversion

Hui Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, density functional theory calculations were used to investigate the catalytic performances of CeO4-terminated and Ca-doped surfaces. It was found that the Ca-doped surface exhibits lower-coordinated Ce sites which facilitate reduction of Ce4+ to Ce3+ and enhance the selective oxidation of CH4 to CH3OH. The isolated nature and strong electron-reservoir character of the low-coordinated Ce sites on the Ca-doped surface play a crucial role in the high activity and selectivity towards CH4 oxidation.

Cooperative role of cobalt and gallium under the ethanol steam reforming on Co/CeGaOx

Esteban L. Fornero et al.

Summary: The performance of gallium promoted cobalt-ceria catalysts for ethanol steam reforming was studied. Gallium promoted catalyst showed higher conversion efficiency of ethanol and production of oxygenated by-products compared to cobalt-ceria catalyst. The role and mechanism of gallium promotion were analyzed and explained through detailed characterization and analysis of the catalyst.

The effects of support morphology on the performance of Pt/CeO2 catalysts for the low temperature steam reforming of ethanol

Marios Kourtelesis et al.

Summary: A study was conducted on Pt/CeO2 catalysts with different support morphologies for low temperature ethanol steam reforming, revealing that support morphology influences certain reaction routes, while the reaction scheme remains the same regardless of the support. At 573K, Pt/CeO2- PPT exhibited rapid deactivation, while Pt/CeO2- NR remained rather stable. XPS surface analysis showed significant Pt reduction on CeO2 nanorods at 573K, leading to the reduction of Ce4+ into Ce3+.

Facet-dependent stability of near-surface oxygen vacancies and excess charge localization at CeO2 surfaces

Patricia Perez-Bailac et al.

Summary: The study investigates the dependence of the relative stability of surface and subsurface oxygen vacancies in CeO2 on crystal facets. The results show that the preference of vacancies for surface or subsurface sites is facet- and concentration-dependent, with corresponding locations of Ce3+ polarons. The stability of vacancies on different facets is influenced by packing density, lattice relaxation effects, and localization of excess charge.
