Yuze Hu et al.

Summary: The study presents a dual-optically tunable metaphotonic device for ultrafast terahertz switching. It achieves picosecond ultrafast photoswitching with 100% modulation depth at either 0.55 THz or 0.86 THz, controlled by continuous wave light and femtosecond laser pulse. The technology enables frequency-selective, temporally tunable, and multidimensionally-driven features, making it valuable for advanced multiplexing of information and wireless communication.

Ultrafast light-induced THz switching in exchange-biased Fe/Pt spintronic heterostructure

Sandeep Kumar et al.

Summary: The ultrafast optical control of magnetization in spintronic structures enables high-speed information processing. In this study, photoexcitation density-dependent induced exchange-bias tunability and THz switching were demonstrated in an annealed Fe/Pt thin-film heterostructure, without the need for an applied magnetic field. These results open up possibilities for all-optical ultrafast mechanisms in spintronic devices for exchange-bias tuning.

Terahertz spintronic magnetometer (TSM)

Piyush Agarwal et al.

Summary: A ferromagnetic metal is composed of localized electrons and conduction electrons that are coupled through strong exchange interaction. Non-equilibrium photoexcitation of the ferromagnetic thin films generates a transient spin current, which can be converted into a pulsed charge current and terahertz emission in the presence of a neighboring heavy metal layer. The proposed terahertz spintronic magnetometry tool allows reliable in-plane magnetization detection of ferromagnetic thin films and has technological importance in their characterization.

Giant Electrical Modulation of Terahertz Emission in Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)0.7Ti0.3O3/Co-Fe-B/Pt Structure

Hao Cheng et al.

Summary: This research introduces an electric field-controlled spintronic THz emitter based on ferroelectric-ferromagnetic/nonmagnetic structure, allowing THz radiation emission with modulation in amplitude and polarization angle. The modulation depth of the THz amplitude is up to 69%, and the maximum rotation of the THz polarization angle is 28 degrees, with demonstrated nonvolatile behavior. The study suggests the potential use of this technology in next-generation on-chip THz sources, THz memory devices, and THz ghost imaging applications.

Summary: The experimental investigation of ultrafast electro-optical properties in magnetic materials shows great potential for spintronic optoelectronic devices. A spintronic terahertz emitter was constructed using time-resolved terahertz emission spectroscopy with an IrMn3/Ni-Fe heterojunction. The spin current generated in the Ni-Fe layer is converted into a charge current by the IrMn3 layer, allowing for timely recording of the terahertz emission.

Optical damage limit of efficient spintronic THz emitters

Sandeep Kumar et al.

Summary: THz pulses are generated from femtosecond pulse-excited ferromagnetic/nonmagnetic spintronic heterostructures via inverse spin Hall effect. The highest possible THz signal strength from spintronic THz emitters is limited by the optical damage threshold of the corresponding heterostructures at the excitation wavelength. For the thickness-optimized spintronic heterostructure, the THz generation efficiency does not saturate with the excitation fluence even up till the damage threshold.
