Copper Nanoparticle Application Enhances Plant Growth and Grain Yield in Maize Under Drought Stress Conditions

Dong Van Nguyen et al.

Summary: Copper nanoparticle priming enhances drought tolerance in maize by increasing leaf water content and plant biomass, as well as anthocyanin, chlorophyll, and carotenoid contents, while decreasing reactive oxygen species accumulation and increasing reactive oxygen species scavenging enzyme activities. Additionally, applying copper nanoparticles increases total seed number and grain yield under drought stress conditions, suggesting a promising approach for the production of drought-tolerant crop plants.

Evaluation of Drought Tolerance of Five Maize Genotypes by Virtue of Physiological and Molecular Responses

Khalil M. Saad-Allah et al.

Summary: This study investigated the metabolic and physiological adjustments, as well as gene expression patterns, in five maize genotypes with varying drought tolerance. The results showed that water stress reduced plant growth and yield characteristics, but also triggered adaptive mechanisms such as increased concentration of antioxidants and metabolic activities. The expression of drought-responsive genes was associated with the severity of water stress and varied among genotypes, with G10 and G123 showing the highest drought resistance.

Effects of Drought Stress and Rehydration on Physiological and Biochemical Properties of Four Oak Species in China

Shifa Xiong et al.

Summary: This study compared and evaluated the drought resistance of four Chinese oak species, Q. fabri, Q. serrata, Q. acutissima, and Q. variabilis, at the seedling stage. The results showed that all four oak species exhibited a downward trend in physiological indicators under drought stress, followed by an upward trend after rehydration. The comprehensive evaluation indicated that Q. serrata had the highest drought resistance, while Q. acutissima had the lowest.

Reducing nitrogen leaching while enhancing growth, yield performance and physiological traits of rice by the application of controlled-release urea fertilizer

El-Refaie Kenawy et al.

Summary: The use of controlled-release urea fertilizer (CRUF) in rice plants improved growth and yield parameters, mitigated water stress, and enhanced water and nutrients use efficiencies under drought conditions. This was achieved by reducing osmotic and oxidative stress levels, extending urea nitrogen existence, and improving soil characteristics through continued rhizophore moistening.

Plant survival under drought stress: Implications, adaptive responses, and integrated rhizosphere management strategy for stress mitigation

Rabisa Zia et al.

Summary: Drought poses a serious threat to global agriculture, particularly impacting soil biota and plants. Plant drought resistance is a complex quantitative trait controlled by multiple genes, with research indicating various strategies to cope with drought stress, yet the role of the rhizosphere remains largely overlooked. Therefore, an integrated rhizosphere management strategy may be an effective approach for mitigating drought stress.

Dissection of Drought Tolerance in Upland Cotton Through Morpho-Physiological and Biochemical Traits at Seedling Stage

Zobia Zahid et al.

Summary: The study highlighted the impact of water scarcity on cotton growth and productivity, emphasizing the urgent need for a solution. Through evaluating 23 genotypes for drought tolerance at the seedling stage, significant differences were found in morphological and physiological traits, with interactions between genotype and water regime affecting traits like root length, shoot length, excised leaf water loss, and stomatal conductance. Positive correlations were found between transpiration rate and relative water content, as well as between relative water content and photosynthesis, under drought conditions. Negative correlations were found between stomatal conductance and shoot length, as well as between stomatal conductance and photosynthesis. These findings suggest potential indicators for differentiating drought-tolerant genotypes and the possibility of developing breeding strategies using specific varieties such as NIAB-135, NIAB-512, and CIM-554.

Nuclear translocation promotes proteasomal degradation of human Rad17 protein through the N-terminal destruction boxes

Yasunori Fukumoto et al.

Summary: The DNA-binding protein Rad17 interacts with ATR kinase upon DNA damage to recruit the 9-1-1 complex and activate the DNA damage checkpoint. Rad17's nuclear translocation is functionally linked to proteasomal degradation, with ATP binding activity essential for the process. The ATPase domain of Rad17 orchestrates nuclear translocation, proteasomal degradation, and interaction with the 9-1-1 complex.

Differential responses of antioxidants and osmolytes in upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) cultivars contrasting in drought tolerance

C. K. Singh et al.

Summary: Drought stress significantly decreased growth parameters in cotton while increasing osmotic potential, electrolyte leakage, glycine betaine content, lipid peroxidation, proline content, and antioxidant enzyme activity. Tolerant cultivars showed less impact on physio-biochemical traits compared to sensitive genotypes, indicating a potential role of enzymatic mechanisms in protecting plants against oxidative damage.
