RNA Interference Analysis Reveals the Positive Regulatory Role of Ferritin in Testis Development in the Oriental River Prawn, Macrobrachium nipponense

Shubo Jin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of ferritin in the sexual development of male Macrobrachium nipponense. The results showed that ferritin plays a crucial role in the differentiation and development of gonads, especially in male sexual development. In addition, ferritin was found to positively affect testosterone secretion and testis development. These findings provide important insights into the understanding of sexual development in M. nipponense and the establishment of techniques for regulating testis development.

Effects of lipid sources on the growth performance, gonad development, fatty acid profile and transcription of related genes in juvenile sea urchin (Strongylocentrotus intermedius)

Min Li et al.

Summary: This experiment compared the effects of three lipid sources on the growth and gonad development in juvenile sea urchins. The results showed that linseed oil and fish oil were ideal lipid sources, increasing deposition of EPA and ARA in the sea urchins, while soybean oil was not suitable as a sole lipid source. Elevated transcription of fatty acid synthesis-related genes may be responsible for the increased deposition of EPA and ARA in linseed oil and soybean oil, respectively.

Insulin-like androgenic gland hormone from the shrimp Fenneropenaeus merguiensis: Expression, gene organization and transcript variants

Tingting Zhou et al.

Summary: Male sex differentiation in crustaceans is mainly controlled by the insulin-like androgenic gland hormone (IAG). In this study, the cDNA and gene of the shrimp FmIAG were analyzed, revealing different transcript variants and the potential impact of splicing of intron 4. The expression of FmIAG was found to be influenced by factors like eyestalk ablation and CHH-like gene, with implications for male growth regulation in shrimp aquaculture.

Identification of candidate genes from androgenic gland in Macrobrachium nipponense regulated by eyestalk ablation

Shubo Jin et al.

Summary: This study identified key metabolic pathways and candidate genes involved in male sexual development in Macrobrachium nipponense through transcriptome sequencing, revealing that double-sided eyestalk ablation has a stronger regulatory effect. Cell Cycle, Cellular Senescence, Oxidative Phosphorylation, Glycolysis/Gluconeogenesis and Steroid Hormone Biosynthesis were the primary enriched metabolic pathways.

Summary: Previous studies have shown the potential role of SDHB in male sexual development in M. nipponense by providing ATP. This study further analyzed the functions of Mn-SDHB using qPCR, in situ hybridization, western-blot, and RNAi, finding that SDHB is crucial for testis development and sperm production. The research also suggests that SDHB has positive regulatory effects on male sexual development by influencing the expression of Mn-IAG.

Transcriptome Profiling Analysis of the Testis After Eyestalk Ablation for Selection of the Candidate Genes Involved in the Male Sexual Development in Macrobrachium nipponense

Shubo Jin et al.

Summary: The eyestalk of crustacean species plays a significant role in the regulation of male sexual development, with its ablation leading to increased vigor in testis development. Transcriptome profiling revealed differentially expressed genes and enriched metabolic pathways, indicating a more pronounced regulatory effect of double-side eyestalk ablation. The study also highlighted the positive regulatory effect of NFkB alpha on testis development in Macrobrachium nipponense.
