Role of distinct fibroblast lineages and immune cells in dermal repair following UV radiation-induced tissue damage

Emanuel Rognoni et al.

Summary: Solar ultraviolet radiation leads to selective loss of fibroblasts in the skin, with repair predominantly mediated by papillary fibroblast proliferation following acute exposure. Chronic exposure results in permanent loss of papillary fibroblasts, compensated partially by fibroblast membrane protrusion expansion. Loss of papillary fibroblasts is primarily induced by a deregulated inflammatory response, with infiltrating T cells supporting fibroblast survival under UVR-induced environmental stress.

UVB protective effects of Sargassum horneri through the regulation of Nrf2 mediated antioxidant mechanism

Eui Jeong Han et al.

Summary: The methanol extract of Sargassum horneri showed protective effects against UVB-induced cellular damage in human keratinocytes by reducing intracellular ROS generation, inhibiting apoptosis, and modulating the expression of anti- and pro-apoptotic molecules. The extract also restored skin dryness and barrier disruption in UVB-exposed cells through the Nrf2/HO-1/NF-kappa B p65 signaling pathway. These findings suggest that Sargassum horneri extract may be useful for preventing UVB-induced skin damage.

Down-Regulation of the Proteoglycan Decorin Fills in the Tumor-Promoting Phenotype of Ionizing Radiation-Induced Senescent Human Breast Stromal Fibroblasts

Eleni Mavrogonatou et al.

Summary: Ionizing radiation for breast cancer can lead to premature senescence of stromal fibroblasts, characterized by the down-regulation of decorin. Growth factors like bFGF and VEGF play critical roles in this regulation. Autophagy activation can increase decorin levels, while impaired autophagy is implicated in decorin reduction.
